Paediatric First Aid
Paediatric First Aid training equips a nanny with the skills to respond confidently in a medical emergency involving an infant or child. Courses typically cover choking response, infant and child CPR, treatment of severe allergic reactions, and how to manage the first critical minutes before professional help arrives.
While Paediatric First Aid is a legal requirement for Ofsted-registered childminders, it is not currently mandatory for private nannies. At Little Penguins Nannies, we consider it an essential part of safe, responsible childcare, and we encourage every candidate to hold a valid, in-date certificate. Courses are typically delivered over one or two days by an accredited provider and are renewed every three years.
We’re pleased to announce that Paediatric First Aid courses will soon be available through Little Penguins Nannies, delivered in partnership with our specialist training provider. Full details, including dates and pricing, will be published here shortly.
Interested in securing a place, or want to be notified as soon as courses open? Get in touch and we’ll make sure you’re among the first to know.

Gary Currier
First Aid Trainer & Educator, NMA Training
Gary Currier is the founder and director of NMA Training, with over 20 years’ experience delivering first aid training and practical education. His background is particularly relevant to those working with children, having previously worked as an Early Years Practitioner within EYFS settings, alongside many years of coaching children and young people.
This hands-on experience gives Gary a strong understanding of the responsibilities placed on nannies, childminders, nursery practitioners and others caring for young children. His training focuses not simply on passing a course, but on giving learners the confidence to recognise an emergency and respond effectively when it matters.
Gary regularly delivers Paediatric First Aid and wider first aid training to childcare professionals, schools, nurseries and other organisations. His teaching style combines clear, practical instruction with an approachable manner and appropriate humour, helping learners feel comfortable asking questions while never losing sight of the serious responsibility involved in caring for children.
His aim is simple: people should leave training feeling capable, confident and prepared to act.
