Safeguarding Policy

Last updated:August 2026

Little Penguins Nannies Ltd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. This policy explains the approach we take to help protect the children of the families we work with, and applies to everyone acting on behalf of the Agency.

Our Commitment

As an introduction agency led by a qualified teacher, we bring a genuine understanding of child development and welfare to every stage of our work. While we are not the employer of any Nanny we introduce, and safeguarding within a family home ultimately remains the responsibility of the employing Family, we take our role in safer recruitment seriously and are committed to acting promptly and appropriately if any safeguarding concern is raised with us.

Safer Recruitment

Before introducing any Nanny to a Family, we take the following steps:

  • We guide every candidate through obtaining, and directly verify, a valid Enhanced DBS certificate
  • We contact previous employers to verify references and prior conduct
  • We conduct a personal interview with every candidate, assessing their approach to childcare and child development, not only their experience
  • We encourage every candidate to hold, or work towards, a valid Paediatric First Aid certificate

Where a candidate is still in the process of obtaining a DBS certificate or reference, we will always be transparent with Families about this before any Introduction is made.

Designated Safeguarding Contact

Raquel, leader of Little Penguins Nannies and a qualified teacher (PGCE, QTS, SEND specialism), acts as our designated point of contact for safeguarding matters. Any concern raised with the Agency will be handled personally and with the utmost care and confidentiality.

Reporting a Concern

If you have any concern about the welfare or safety of a child in connection with a Nanny introduced by us, please contact us immediately at admin@littlepenguinsnannies.com. We will take every concern seriously and respond promptly.

If a child is in immediate danger, please contact the emergency services on 999 without delay.

You can also report a safeguarding concern directly to the relevant local authority’s Children’s Services team, or to the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000, at any time, whether or not you have already contacted us.

Confidentiality

Any safeguarding concern raised with us will be treated with appropriate confidentiality and shared only with those who need to know, in line with our Privacy Notice. However, we will never allow confidentiality to prevent us from acting to protect a child’s welfare, including reporting concerns to the appropriate authorities where necessary.

Review of This Policy

This policy is reviewed periodically to ensure it remains fit for purpose and reflects current best practice and guidance.
